Mycotoxin (Mold) Testing

A urine-based test that identifies the mold toxin burden behind many cases of unexplained chronic pain and fatigue.

What is Mycotoxin (Mold) Testing?

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by certain species of mold. Exposure — typically from water-damaged buildings, contaminated food, or compromised indoor air — can lead to a chronic toxin burden that drives a wide range of symptoms: chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog, sinus and respiratory issues, neurological symptoms, and persistent inflammation.

Urine-based mycotoxin testing measures the metabolites your body excretes after exposure to mold toxins, identifying which specific mycotoxins are present and at what levels. This is particularly useful in patients with longstanding, unexplained symptoms — especially those who have lived or worked in damp environments, or whose symptoms began after a known water event.

At Functional Restoration Institute we use mycotoxin testing when the clinical picture suggests environmental toxin burden. Findings direct a phased detoxification and binding protocol, alongside critical environmental remediation — because no protocol succeeds while ongoing exposure continues.

Benefits

Benefits of Mycotoxin (Mold) Testing

Identifies a hidden toxin burden

Mycotoxin exposure is one of the most commonly missed drivers of chronic, multi-system symptoms.

Specific to mycotoxin type

The test identifies which specific mycotoxins are present, which informs both treatment choices and exposure investigation.

Explains unexplained symptoms

Chronic pain, neurological symptoms, fatigue, and brain fog without a clear cause often have a mycotoxin component when investigated.

Directs detoxification protocols

Test findings shape the binders, drainage support, and detoxification interventions used — so the protocol matches the toxin profile.

Convenient at-home collection

A single first-morning urine sample collected at home is all that is required.

Your Visit

What to Expect at FR Institute

Your provider determines mycotoxin testing is appropriate based on your history and symptom picture. The test kit ships to your home; collection is a single first-morning urine sample. Some providers recommend a glutathione 'provocation' the day before testing — your provider will advise.

Results return in 2–3 weeks. We review findings in a dedicated visit and build a phased protocol: identifying and removing exposure first, then supporting drainage, then introducing binders to clear the toxin burden — alongside any indicated antifungal or immune support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Testing is most useful when clinical history suggests possible exposure (water-damaged buildings, ongoing damp environments) or when chronic, multi-system symptoms remain unexplained after standard workup.
