Conditions We Treat

Elbow Pain

Lateral and medial epicondylitis and nerve entrapment at the elbow.

Overview

Understanding Elbow Pain

Elbow pain is most often driven by overuse — repetitive gripping, typing, lifting, or sport-specific load that overwhelms the tendons attaching at the elbow. Two of the most common presentations are lateral epicondylitis ("tennis elbow") and medial epicondylitis ("golfer's elbow"), often joined by cubital tunnel syndrome when the ulnar nerve becomes irritated as it crosses the inside of the joint.

These conditions tend to develop gradually, then linger because the underlying mechanics — wrist control, grip strategy, shoulder stability — go unaddressed.

At Functional Restoration Institute, we evaluate the entire upper limb. Care combines soft tissue work, joint mobilisation, neurodynamic techniques, and progressive loading exercises to rebuild tendon capacity and resolve symptoms.

Recognising the Signs

Symptoms & Causes

Common Symptoms

  • Pain on the outside (lateral) or inside (medial) of the elbow
  • Tenderness when pressed over the bony prominences
  • Pain with gripping, lifting, or twisting motions
  • Weakness in the hand or forearm
  • Tingling or numbness into the ring and little fingers (cubital tunnel)
  • Pain that worsens with repetitive computer or sport use

Underlying Causes

  • Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
  • Medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow)
  • Cubital tunnel syndrome (ulnar nerve entrapment)
  • Repetitive strain from work, sport, or training load
  • Poor wrist, shoulder, or thoracic mechanics overloading the elbow

Our Approach

How We Treat Elbow Pain

Every plan is built around your individual findings and combines the most effective evidence-based methods available.

Step 01

Soft tissue work, ART, and fascial manipulation for the forearm

Step 02

Joint mobilisation of the elbow, wrist, and cervical spine

Step 03

Neurodynamic techniques for the ulnar, median, and radial nerves

Step 04

Progressive tendon loading and grip-strength rehabilitation

Step 05

Ergonomic and technique modification for work and sport

Step 06

Corrective exercise targeting the shoulder and scapular stabilisers

Why FR Institute

The FRI Difference

At FRI, we look beyond the elbow itself. our doctors identify the wrist, shoulder, and neck contributions to your pain and rebuilds the tissue capacity and movement strategy needed for lasting relief — without injections or surgery in the vast majority of cases.
